Gens are factions, or "teams", much like guilds are.
There are 2 Gens, are these teams are enemies of one another. The 2 gens are called D (Duprian) and V (Vanert). It is important that you are sure about joining a gen because there are a LOT of consequences.
Joining a Gen is optional.
The benefit of joining a Gen
Joining a gens means;
- You get EXP for killing people from the other gen.
- You are more likely to be helped by people from your own gen.
- You will be rewarded weekly by the steward of your gen, depending on how many people from the other gens you have killed.
- You can participate in gens-exclusive quests, which you can find by talking to the steward of your gen.
- If a Guild Master decides to join a gen, the entire guild will join it with him.
The downside of joining a Gen
Joining a gens means;
- You can not party members of the opposite gen
- You can not join the guild of an opposite gen
- You can not forge alliances with guilds from the opposite gen
- You can be killed by the other gen in Gens-PVP maps (Karutan 2)
- You can not join the opposite gen within 3 days of leaving your own gen. (so you can't just "swap" gens when you feel like it.)
- A Guild Master has to disband his guild before he can leave his gen.
